A MAN (43) was convicted and sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment by the Nongoma Regional Court for raping his 12-year-old daughter.
The court heard that on 1 December 2010 the child was at home in the Mthungeni area near Ekombe, when she was raped by her father.
The accused threatened to kill her if she reported the rape.
The girl’s trauma did not end there and the victim was again raped by her father during October 2011.
This time the rape was reported to Ekombe police and after a thorough investigation the father was arrested and charged.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the successful conviction.
‘It is shocking that the very person entrusted with the well-being of the victim abused his position of trust by violating this young and innocent child.
‘The sentence handed down by the court sends a clear message that such acts of brutality are totally unacceptable in our society,’ she said.
