Unizulu holds seminar for school principals

The university organised the seminar because it realises that school leaders are the main catalysts for successful learning and creating confident learners

THE University of Zululand (Unizulu) held its inaugural school principals seminar at the Empangeni Protea Hotel last week.

Principals from various schools in the region, as well as university faculty Deans and district Education Department officials gathered for the seminar, which aims to identify and understand the challenges faced by teachers and their roles and responsibilities in developing effective teaching.

‘The university organised the seminar because it realises that school leaders are the main catalysts for successful learning and creating confident learners. This seminar is a platform designed to support, develop and acknowledge the contribution made by school principals,’ Unizulu said in a statement.

Unizulu Head of Psychology Prof JD Thwala presented the keynote address

Speaking at the event, the university’s Head of Pscyhology, Prof JD Thwala, encouraged principals to work together with teachers and to constantly motivate them.

‘Teachers have the responsibility of building individuals and we need to create a conducive environment for them,’ Prof Thwala said.

He said the institution has adopted a motion which recognises that it was not the sole responsibility of principals to shape ideal ‘products’, but that of all education stakeholders.
