This is the third major accident on Empangeni's Main Road this year

UMHLATHUZE Traffic officials have closed down Empangeni’s Main Road (R34) opposite the Moth Hall, after three vehicles were involved in an accident.

According to one of the drivers on scene, a bakkie carrying mielies lost one of its wheels before losing control and rolling a number of times.

The driver of the bakkie has since been stabilized and transported to Ngwelezane Hospital by Meditrax for fractures and abrasions.

Members of the public are being urged to use Rex Henderson road.

The scene will be cleared in approximately two hours.

This is the third big accident on this stretch of road this year.

uMhlathuze Municipality previously told the ZO that placing a traffic camera along the Main Road would not deter members of the public from speeding on the stretch.

Despite this a number of residents are adamant that something needs to be done regarding the speed in which people travel on the stretch.
