Richards Bay CBD car theft rumours dispelled

Richards Bay police officers were in fact handing out pamphlets as part of their Mandela Day drive

RUMOURS were yesterday (Tuesday) circulating in Richards Bay that no fewer than three vehicles had been stolen from a CBD car park.

But Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, says there is no truth to the rumours.

The Haiti Mall parking area, opposite Netcare The Bay Hospital and Nedbank, was indeed ‘swarming with police officers’ as reported to the ZO, but not for the reasons assumed by many residents.

The police officers from Richards Bay SAPS were, in fact, handing out safety awareness pamphlets as part of their Mandela Day 67 Minutes safety awareness drive.

‘I can confirm that there have been no reports of vehicle thefts from the Richards Bay CBD area in the last 24 hours,’ said Ferreira, who urged people not to spread stories without knowing the facts.
