CITY of uMhlathuze Youth Council has committed itself to do everything in its power to make a difference in people’s lives.
This commitment was made by Youth Council Chairperson Sphelele ‘Wiwi’ Gumede.
He was speaking in Ward 13, eSikhaleni in a ceremony to mark the completion of a house renovated by the Youth Council.
‘This is our contribution to the youth of this city. Some time ago, we were informed by young people of this area about the bad condition of the house, belonging to an orphan who lives with her four-month-old baby.
‘They requested us to intervene in the matter. We then approached local businessman Mbongi Khuzwayo of Siphosami Survey, who provided material for renovation of this house.
‘On receiving the material, we took an initiative as members of the Youth Council to renovate the house ourselves.
We replaced the roof tiles which were leaking, replaced doors, windows as well as doing wall painting,’ he said.
Gumede, joined by Ward 13 councillor Mavis Hadebe and Youth Manager for the City of uMhlathuze Njabulo Ntuli, appealed for more corporate support in community upliftment projects.

‘It is our wish to see both the public and private sector supporting community projects.
‘We are driven by a motto to make a difference in people’s lives, in particular the youth. With or without resources, we will not rest until we have covered the whole city by changing the lives of the youth.
‘We are young people, we are energetic and we will deliver on our mandate. We were elected to champion the interest of young people, and we are doing exactly that.
‘We have also partnered with Youth Blood in Action in a programme to distribute sanitary towels in schools, especially in rural schools,’ he said.
House owner Neliswa Mdletshe was extremely grateful for the renovation of her house and said, ‘I wish to sincerely thank all those who contributed.’
