‘EVEN though it has been exactly one month and seven days since the disappearance of my sister Mbali Gumede, of Khandisa Reserve near KwaDlangezwa, we have not thrown in the towel.
‘With that having been said, it is true that at the moment there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel, but we remain positive that one day we will be with my sister again.’
That was the attitude of Mbali’s sister Tobo Mthembu, when asked about the progress in finding the former University of Zululand student.
Mbali, who turned 23 last month, went missing on 5 June after she had gone to the University of Zululand and did not return home.
Since her disappearance the family has been praying hard for her to be found, and pleading with the community to assist with information that could lead to her whereabouts.

Mbali’s family has also been visited by the leadership of the City of uMhlathuze led by the Mayor Cllr Mdu Mhlongo and his Deputy Cllr Silondile Mkhize, in an attempt to give comfort to the family and to give assurance they are not alone.
Mtunzini SAPS Captain Sibusiso Guma confirmed the search for Mbali is continuing.
‘We are still investigating this case as members of the SAPS. Last week we went to Ngwavuma on our search mission, after receiving reports of a woman’s body that was found in that part of the province. We went there with the family to check if that woman was Mbali, but it was not.
‘Before that we also attended to rumours that circulated in the community last month of a woman’s body that was found with her eyes mutilated in bush near Port Durnford.
‘Even there too we found nothing that could be related to Mbali. We will continue searching, but so far there is nothing concrete at this stage,’ he said.
