EMERGENCY repairs were carried out late into last night, and are still underway, after a sudden power outage left virtually the whole of Richards Bay in the dark.
The power went out suddenly at about 9pm when an insulator on the line that feeds the Scorpio Substation blew.
Many Richards Bay residents reported having seen a bright blue flash in the sky ‘like lightning’ when the incident occurred.
A team was quickly dispatched to locate the fault and carry out emergency repairs, and power was restored just after midnight.
The team is still working to completely fix the fault but electricity is being temporarily fed to Scorpio Substation from another line.
On another electrical issue, the City of uMhlathuze has this afternoon (Thursday) notified the public of a planned power outage in Alton today, which should last for about two hours from 2.15pm to 4.15pm.
This is because transformers at the Polaris Substation need to be replaced and realigned.
