Crime wave sweeps through Mzingazi
Serving her community for over two decades as a community worker and crime fighter, Mdletshe said crime has spiralled out of control again and the community must unite to combat it

MZINGAZI Community Policing Forum Chairperson, Sharon Mdletshe has called for calm in the community after a number of violent attacks and a spate of burglaries, house robberies, attempted murders, murders and assaults were reported last month.
Serving her community for over two decades as a community worker and crime fighter, Mdletshe said crime has spiralled out of control again and the community must unite to combat it.
In June she attended to a violent house robbery, a stabbing incident and shooting at a local tavern where two people were killed in the two separate and unrelated crimes.
Mdletshe is often the first person to be notified when an accident or crime is committed in the community.
‘I do not know when crime will come to an end but there have been such senseless attempted murders and killings recently.
‘I have had so many sleepless nights, attending to youngsters consuming alcohol and then assaulting and killing each other.
‘On Youth Day I was notified of a young man who was knocked by a car, only to arrive at the scene and discover that he was stabbed in the neck and had passed away.
‘That same night I attended to a house robbery in Khondweni where the resident was attacked and sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
‘Shot in the stomach and bleeding profusely, we had to rush him to eNseleni Clinic to medical attention,’ she said.
She has witnessed the aftermath of many brutal, violent and traumatic incidents and has used her own vehicle to transport many victims to the local clinic or hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, in 2013, OK Foods Richards Bay donated a vehicle to Mdletshe, which has helped her continue with community work.
