Food waste at illegal dump site in Richards Bay

While many homeless people go without food, loaves of bread are being dumped at an illegal dump site

BUSINESS people in Richards Bay are up in arms over illegal dumping in Alton, a mess which is an eyesore, unhygienic and attracting unsavoury characters.

It appears the waste, which includes empty bread flour bags, entire loaves of bread, as well as hardware-type refuse such as empty silicone tubes, has been dumped at an illegal dump site at the end of Bronze Bar for some weeks.

‘This has been going on for some time now, with trucks and other vehicles dumping rubbish there on what seems to be a daily basis,’ said a business owner who asked to remain anonymous.

‘I don’t know if it is companies themselves dumping their waste there or if it is a waste removal company, but surely this is not allowed.

‘It is unsightly, unhygienic and furthermore, the many loaves of bread that have just been discarded there could have been given to an animal shelter for food.’

The matter was reported to the City of uMhlathuze but no response has yet been received.
