‘I’m a kept woman’ – confessions of a blessee

‘I’m not a prostitute, I just like nice things…'

‘I WOULD rather have sex with someone who will give me something in return, than give myself to someone who calls himself my boyfriend but doesn’t have a cent to his name.’

Seated on a luxurious white leather couch in her lavish Empangeni flat, 22-year-old student Nomalanga oozes confidence and defends her status as a ‘blessee’.

She lives in luxury on her own, her cupboard packed with designer clothes courtesy of her two older blessers, who are also funding her studies.

She was quick to clarify their two very different roles in her life.
Nomalanga said the high cost of living far from home is what drove her to be a blessee.

‘My two blessers have different responsibilities. One pays for my flat and household bills, while the other is responsible for making me look good,’ she says, running her well-manicured nails through an expensive Brazilian weave.

‘I’m not a prostitute, I just love nice things and have to maintain my lifestyle. Besides, I’m using them as much as they are using me.’

According to Nomalanga her married blessers only come to her when they are looking for ‘a good time’ and want to escape their lives.
‘What is a normal relationship anyway?

‘Love is overrated. Every man wants something. At least I know where I stand with my partners and we have mutually beneficial relationships.

‘For many young women this lifestyle is extremely appealing. For many this is their only way out of poverty. At the end of the day, things cost money.’

She says the relationships are easy and uncomplicated.

‘A blesser comes to get what he wants from me, and in return I get what I want from him. It’s a win-win situation.

‘I get anything from money and weaves to overseas holidays and Louis Vuitton bags.

‘I think of them as modern day sugar daddies. So basically, when you have a blesser, then your life is blessed financially.

‘Apart from where a blesser-blessee relationship involves minors, is there really anything wrong with it? If both parties are happy, why is this still such a controversial topic?

‘I am an adult and know what I am doing – and I always, always protect myself during sexual intercourse.

‘If a man wants to buy a woman’s attention or affection and if a woman sells her attention or affection, there is nothing wrong with that.

Nomalanga warned other blessees to be vigilant though and not to let men rule them.
‘The key is to always maintain control – of your physical and emotional well-being, as well as your sexual health.’
