Youth need recreational activities to keep them occupied

An appeal to Mtubatuba Municipality

KWANKOMBOSE Reserve is located in the Mtubatuba area next to the KwaMsane Township. There are eight schools in this semi-rural area – three high schools and five primary schools.

There is a quote which says ‘a child in sport is a child off court’, which means if the youth of today can focus more on healthy activities like sport, it will limit the chances of them becoming involved in destructive behaviour such as crime, alcohol and drug abuse and other such uncivilised activities.

The reason for this letter is to appeal to the Mtubatuba Municipality to note the needs of the KwaNkombose Reserve youth – especially those still in school – to be provided with sport and recreation facilities. These could be indoor football, basketball, chess, snooker, umlabalaba, ballroom and traditional dancing.

There is also a need for outdoors sport facilities for soccer, netball and athletic because there could be much talent waiting to be discovered in this area.

There are large tracts of unused land in the KwaNkombose Reserve which the municipality can turn into proper sport fields.

To see the youth of this area end up in jail and young girls falling pregnant because they don’t have any sport and recreational activities to keep them busy, is sad indeed.

Hopefully the municipality officials will try by all means to do something after reading this letter.

  1. This article is motivating the youth to be more engaged in sport so that they will limit themselves in bad community behaviour and focus more to health benefit, mentally benefit and educational benefit in sport.

Thanks you Mr Manqele for keeping the Municipality of Mtubatuba awake.
