Thousands drive through John Ross Parkway sulphuric acid contamination
The acid spilled all along the left lane of the highway between the Eco-junction and Foskor
LIABILITY has been accepted by a transport company after sulphuric acid was spilled from a leaking tanker along a 15km stretch of the John Ross Parkway.
The incident occurred on Wednesday and hundreds of motorists were baffled as they drove, hazard lights on, through a wall of white dust between the Eco-junction intersection and the Alton robots after lime had been thrown over the acid.
The tanker had reportedly left Foskor with a full load of acid – as much as 30 tons – headed towards Empangeni.
