POLICE on Tuesday arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a young albino woman whose lifeless body was found with multiple stab wounds in KwaMbonambi on Saturday.
Asanda Mbuyazi (19) went missing on Sunday, 21 May, after reportedly visiting her boyfriend that evening. She failed to return home and her family opened a missing persons docket three days later.
KwaMbonambi police officers launched an all-unit search, which included the dog unit, for the young woman.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Thulani Zwane said Mbuyazi’s body was found at 6pm on Saturday in the Ndlabeyilandual Reserve near KwaMbonambi when they followed up on reports of a body being discovered.
Apart from multiple stab wounds, the victim had also been raped.
A manhunt was then launched for Mbuyazi’s boyfriend, believed to be the suspect.
He was arrested on Tuesday in Ingwavuma and charged with rape and murder.
He is expected to appear at KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court soon.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, commended the police and detectives who worked tirelessly in tracing the murder suspect.
