UPDATE: Driver of car in fatal Richards Bay accident appears in court
A three-year-old boy died in the head-on collision
THE driver of the vehicle in which a three-year-old boy lost his life on Saturday has appeared in court on charges of driving without a license.
Christiaan Halliday (24) appeared at Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court earlier this week and was released on bail. The case was remanded to 21 June. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
The horror crash occurred on Saturday morning when Halliday, his wife and three children were traveling along Bullion Boulevard. He appeared to have lost control at the S-bend entering Bullion Boulevard towards Richards Bay CBD and crashed head-on into a truck.
‘At this stage investigating officers must do a scene reconstruction before determining the exact circumstances leading to the cause of the accident,’ said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer Debbie Ferreira.
While Halliday was uninjured in the accident, his passengers are still recovering in hospital.
