‘Stranger danger’ education for Richards Bay pupils
Last week was Child Awareness Week, while this week is Child Protection Week
IN a bid to shine a light on child safety awareness in the run-up to Child Protection Week, Richards Bay SAPS last week visited local schools to educate the learners about potential dangers lurking around them and what services are at their disposal.

Grades R and 1 were the focus group during the visit to Betesda Independent School in Richards Bay and the learners were taught about the dangers of taking sweets or accepting lifts from strangers, what rights they have and should invoke in times of emergency, as well as the emergency numbers such as 10111 they must contact when necessary.
‘This week is Child Protection Week, so we are educating children about potential dangers and teaching them that they have a voice and rights,’ said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer Debbie Ferreira.
