AS the stage curtain closed last Saturday night at the Empangeni Civic Centre, the message was quite clear – women abuse is not acceptable.
Through various characters, the Zululand cast conveyed this strong message during the locally brewed stage production The Devil’s Autograph.

The local stars left their hearts and souls on stage while tackling the burning issue of women abuse.

The play was written and produced by journalist and playwright Wellington Makwakwa, and directed by distinguished actor and performer Mthandeni Mbambo of Uzalo and Rockville fame.

It is a story of three women of different races who suffer physical and emotional abuse in their respective homes in the early 1900s, and forced by their circumstances to find work on a sugarcane farm to survive.
