Mud, sweat and tears in Mtunzini as Bell Big Five gets underway

NO one expected the track to allow smooth sailing as the Bell Big Five MTB Series got underway in Mtunzini on Saturday.

The rain-postponed first race, the Zini River Estate Buffalo, saw fewer numbers participating than before, possibly owing to the race being held on Saturday instead of Sunday, but those who did ride thoroughly enjoyed the day.

In the 50km race, 26 women and 91 men finished the course, while the 25km race produced 172 men and 63 women finishers.

Eighty cyclist tackled the 10km route.

Although it is considered a fun ride, this year there was an officially timed U10 category.

Those who did ride were complimentary of the track and the organisation, although some said there were some tough muddy sections to contend with.

The next event will be the Steel Plate Solutions Leopard Chase in Empangeni on Sunday, 25 June.
