With its stylish, sharp exterior styling and plush cabin, the X-Trail definitely stands out among its competitors, even when compared to some more ‘premium’ badges.

The car looks good from all angles, well-balanced and modern.

The LED arrows in the headlights make for an aggressive look that is quite attractive.

Being an all-wheel drive I would have liked the body to sit slightly higher, but despite this, the X-Trail did well beyond expectation in an outing to the Sand Tracks where it was taken through some serious obstacles. Says Val van der Walt.  (Motoring journalist)

Premium touches

Being the top spec’d allwheel drive model, besides the usual luxury features the vehicle also has stop/start, an electronic park brake and full panoramic sunroof.

The AWD dial sits right behind the gear lever in the centre console.

In the back, legroom is class leading, and thanks to that oversized rear-end, one is still left with a large boot.

Another ‘premium’ touch is the automated boot lid, which opens and closes with the touch of a button.

A sense of unison

Nissan offers the X-Trail with three engines, a 1.6 turbo-diesel, 2.0 petrol and 2.5 petrol.

The CVT transmission should make for good fuel economy.

Engine, gearbox and suspension work well together and relays a sense of unison, which makes for pleasant driving in town and on the open road.

If you are shopping around for a mid-size SUV, then the X-Trail should be on your list.
