uShaka retain swimming title

uShaka Swimming Club managed to defend their title at the recent NKZN Short Course Champs

USHAKA Swimming Club successfully defended their Northern KZN Short Course Swimming Championship title at Pionier Hoërskool in Vryheid last weekend.

The club won this prestigious event in 2012 for the first time, and thanks to standout performances from Tash du Toit and Dylan Kilian, they bagged the title for the second consecutive year.

Ushaka bagged 3 334 points, with Newcastle touching in second and Vryheid finishing third.

Du Toit won the ladies’ section and rising star Kilian claimed the men’s section honours.

Coach Francois Boshoff was full of praise for his swimmers.

’I am lucky to be in a position where it is difficult to point out a single great swim over the weekend. Consistency is synonymous with winning and it is the same with these kids. They have been consistent in their training, doing the hard work day after day.. Slowly but surely these children are creating a winning culture, something that has been needed for a long time now.’

‘Swimmers to watch for the future are Jaron Weyermuller, Daniel Dannhauser, Amy Mittermayer, Lizelle Thomson and Jozi Dobyen,’ said Boshoff.

‘Our development team are now becoming shining stars, with two qualifying for national level galas.

‘Now that we have dominated swimming in northern KZN, we are setting our sights at competing and beating those provinces that poach our top talent with lucrative scholarships.’
