Gun-wielding guards a concern

One was wielding an automatic machine gun in full view of everybody

WHAT a shocking experience I encountered this evening while sitting outside in an outdoor eating area at a Richards Bay restaurant.

A party of three exited from inside and walked past me.

One was wielding an automatic machine gun in full view of everybody.

His behaviour was peculiar – looking in all directions as if under threat.

I literally froze on the spot and thought that I would now become a victim of a crime about to go down.

Two cars started up, the one a luxury vehicle and the other a rather tattered LDV, while the person with the weapon stood on the tarred driveway in front of me, waiting for the first car to drive past before jumping into the second vehicle and speeding off.

The person wielding the weapon looked no different than a normal person on the street, wearing scruffy jeans and T-shirt.

Is this the kind of behaviour the public have to now get accustomed to?

I believe this was somebody’s bodyguard playing Rambo while on the job.

Surely there are more discreet ways of dealing with this?

They should be more respectful and considerate of the public, and especially places where children often frequent.

We should not expose them to frightening situations like this one, but instead they should use the drive-thru window.

When I went to ask the staff who it was, some just laughed.

It seems that they are familiar with these visitors as none seemed perturbed and went on with their business as usual.
