Mtubatuba police march against women and child abuse

THE Mtubatuba SAPS staged a peaceful protest against what they called ‘rampant domestic violence against women and children’ in the area.
The members of the police demonstrated on foot, carrying placards bearing strong messages against the perpetrators. Crisscrossing the town, they walked through the taxi ranks and the shopping centres, handing pamphlets to shoppers and other onlookers.
Leading the march were the female police members, who ensured the message was passed to all who listened, saying those who continue to abuse women and children must stop.
The men who abuse their wives were warned, and those who refuse to maintain their children were reminded of their responsibility to act as real fathers.
‘Men are supposed to protect their wives and children, and not cause them harm,’ said the women network officer, Sgt Z Buthelezi.
‘Women must not be beaten by men who are supposed to protect and love them,’ Captain Justice Hlabisa said.
