Goal fest at club hockey matches at Grantleigh

Club hockey takes a break this weekend

ZULULAND club hockey was back in full swing on Sunday at Grantleigh, which saw 26 goals being drilled into the back of the box in four matches.

Unfortunately the highly competitive nature of matches saw four yellow and two green cards being dished out.

In the first game of the morning, Kadenza men played as a tight unit, which resulted in a 3-1 win over Richards Bay.

Empangeni ladies followed with a narrow 1-0 win over Kadenza in a tightly contested match-up.

The later games proved to be goal fests, with Mavericks educating the Unizul men’s side with a dominant 6-0 win and Richards Bay’s women dishing out a 15-0 hiding to the Unizul side.

Club hockey will take a break this weekend when three Zululand men and two women sides compete in the KZNCD tournament in Pietermaritzburg, hoping to gain selection for various KZNCD sides.

The league will continue on Sunday, 21 May at Grantlerigh Schools, before the season wraps up on 18 June.

Fixtures for 21 May

Kadenza women vs Richards Bay at 8am.

Richards Bay men vs Empangeni at 9.15am.

Unizul women vs Vets at 10.30am.

Kadenza men vs Mavericks at 11.45am.
