Mbazwana youth trained as digital TV installers
The project is one of the KZN government’s attempts to eradicate poverty among rural young people
THE Moses Kotane Institute (MKI), in partnership with the KZN Office of the Premier, has embarked on a skills training programme to train the youth in digital television installation.
The project is one of the KZN government’s attempts to eradicate poverty among rural young people.
Five-hundred out of school youth received training.
Youth from the outlying districts were carefully selected and the project was funded by the national skills fund.
Students were selected from Umhlabuyalingana, Vulamehlo, Nkandla, Msinga and Maphumulo municipalities.
The programme focused on two categories, namely business planning to enable the trainees to plan and manage their businesses, finance competency and the actual digital installation procedure.
MKI’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ranveer Persad, said as the country prepares to migrate from analogue TV to digital, it is vital that young people are afforded the necessary skills to make use of these opportunities.
‘Given the high unemployment rate among the country’ s youth, the DTT skills programme will help alleviate the unemployment rate. This programme will empower them to become successful entrepreneurs,’ Persad added.
The first group of 141 students trained were presented with certificates and start-up tool kits at an event held at the Mbazwana Art Centre recently.
