EIGHT years after committing a brutal murder, two men were sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted last Wednesday at the Mtubatuba High Court.
Senzo Mkhize (31) and Sphiwe Mkhize (37) were found guilty of killing Velephi Dlamini (71) at Maphumulo.
In May 2005, Dlamini was at his home in the Mbitane area when both Mkhize men barged into his house, stabbing him several times and accusing him of being involved in witchcraft.
Dlamini died instantly and the men fled the scene.
His body was found the following day by his family and a case of murder was opened at the Maphumulo SAPS, leading to the arrests.
KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police and appealed to the community not to take the law into their own hands, warning that they will face the full might of the law.
‘We are not going to tolerate such crimes, especially where our elderly are being killed.
‘We will ensure that those that are responsible are brought to book,’ she said.
