Double standards applied by KZN Athletics

Rules for athletics champs under the spotlight

HOW is it that fifth place earns you KZN colours but not third place?

I am shocked by the policy and chaos that existed at the KZN athletics championships this year.

What are we teaching our children if policy or rules are not adhered to?

My son attended three of the compulsory meetings as stipulated by KZN Athletics (which was clearly stated on their web page) and obtained a bronze medal at the championships, only to be told that does not qualify for KZN colours or selection to the team, but the boy who finished fifth does.

Not to mention the fact that several athletes in the team have not completed the compulsory three meetings, but are in the team sporting KZN colours.

Why have rules if they do not apply. Since when is fifth better than third?

Organisations cannot publish rules or policies and then change them.

I am a teacher and parent and how can I motivate and encourage participation when the highest authority in athletics in the province cannot get their house in order?

KZN made a blunder in announcing the KZN Sportsman of the Year last month and I wonder what is happening to other sporting bodies in this province? Administration leaves much to be desired.
