Richards Bay dancer stars in Durban production

Talisa Cornwall will be starring in Durban's dance production 'Colourful' when it showcases

Richards Bay dancer, Talisa Cornwall will be starring in Durban’s dance production ‘Colourful’ when it showcases on 22 April at the Playhouse Drama theatre.

Under the auspices of the non-profit organisation Wentworth Arts and Culture organisation’s professional development programme and supported by the National Arts Council, this is the first professional showcase that is choreographed and directed by Jarryd Watson.

Talisa moved to the Bluff to pursue her  career in dance and forms part of the Colourful ensemble.

She trained in different styles of dance with Dance Incorporated in Richards Bay and now joins the Dance Movement professional development programme.

Her main accolades include performing at the Arts Convention in Orlando USA, festivals and productions around KZN and appearing in the SAB advert as a protagonist dancer.

‘I’m so honoured to be a part of the Dance Movement team and have grown as a dancer and artist.

‘Colourful has motivated me to explore emotions I never knew I possessed. Working with Jarryd and the choreography he teaches is edgy and will be thought-provoking for the audiences,’ said Talisa.

Unique style

Colourful brings a vibrant and diverse cast of seven dancers and one poet in a unique artistic style that narrates a story about the transition from apartheid to democracy using a fusion of contemporary dance, hip hop dance and poetry.

Audiences are taken on a journey of nostalgia through the quality of movement, classical and hip hop music and props that depict the social ills and struggles of all South Africans during the apartheid era and in today’s democracy

‘The one thing I love about the arts is that it is so dynamic in portraying different emotions but also creates a platform for social justice, enlightenment and knowledge about the social issues,’ said choreographer Jarryd Watson.

There will be two shows, at 2pm and 7pm. Bookings are through Computicket and at the 2pm show block booking concessions are available for schools, social groups, youth groups and other groups.
