Water woes for Umlalazi

'Due to a mechanical pump breakdown at Phobane Water Treatment Works (Kwahlokohloko Pump) the reticulation of water to several rural and urban wards is affected,' said KC Public Relations Manager, Rekha Naidoo

THE King Cetshwayo District Municipality is addressing the issue of water supply interruptions and outages affecting residents of the Umlalazi Local Municipality.

‘Due to a mechanical pump breakdown at Phobane Water Treatment Works (Kwahlokohloko Pump) the reticulation of water to several rural and urban wards is affected,’ said KC Public Relations Manager, Rekha Naidoo.

‘The district engineers are currently awaiting a replacement pump which has been ordered from overseas and is expected to arrive in the next 16–18 weeks.

‘The affected wards include: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 24, 25, 26 and 27, however all attempts are being made to supply the most affected areas with water tankers.

‘Some rural areas that receive water from tankers may also experience delays, as we will be sourcing water from alternate hydrants as the main supply hydrant is supplied by the pump in question.

‘We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the breakdown, however all efforts are being made to ensure that the problem is attended timeously.’
