Local community organisation, Zululand Hospice Association, was flooded with support recently when youth on a mission to make a change in their communities donated goods and cash to help the association continue to provide palliative care, comfort, care, compassion and counselling.
According to ZHA Income Generation Co-ordinator Irene Okoye, staffers were overcome with emotion as Josie Picton (11) presented her ‘red shoe piggy bank’ full of money to Hospice.
The Grade 5 Felixton College pupil was touched by the work carried out by the charity and sold fudge and inspirational cards to raise funds, which she added to her piggy bank collection.
In addition, members of Empangeni High School Land Service, Anelma Wessels and Marie-Lee Visa, identified the organisation as a beneficiary of their initiatives and donated goods for resale at the ZHA Charity Shop.
Okoye said they were grateful to receive support from the community’s youth and thanked them for their generosity.
