Change of traffic lanes coming on John Ross

Medway traffic to be diverted early in May

MOTORISTS who regularly use the John Ross Parkway and Medway intersection may soon have to pace themselves.

Once layer works on the Medway southbound road is completed at the end of the month, traffic will be diverted in early May from the old carriageway to the harbour onto the new road, so that the existing one can be reconstructed.

Completion is expected at the end of August.

Project engineer Rob Cowan warned traffic will be reduced to one lane to and from the port, which will be regulated by traffic signals similar to the Steel Bridge. During this time, no trucks will be allowed to use the road.

‘It should be noted that access to the port via the East Gate Port entrance will be restricted to light vehicles only for the period 18 April to 19 May to accommodate work on the tie-in at the port entrance.

‘No abnormal loads will be allowed to access or leave the port via this entrance during this period as the lane width will be reduced 3,5m.’

Cowan said the culvert construction is running behind schedule, but work on the John Ross should be finished at the end of August.
