‘Thief on wheels’ still on the prowl

Pedestrians and shoppers have been urged to be vigilant with their bags

POLICE are still looking for the ‘thief on wheels’ who brazenly grabbed a woman’s handbag while she was waiting for a bus last Wednesday morning in Meerensee.

The suspect, described as a young white male who wore a white and grey shirt, white helmet and drove a black scooter, robbed the victim near the Methodist Church grounds at 11.20am.

The Richards Bay police on Monday said a similar incident occurred in January, committed by a man on a pink scooter.

Pedestrians and shoppers have been urged to be vigilant with their bags.

Numerous ‘bag snatching’ crimes were reported in Arboretum, Meerensee and the Central Business District in 2015, but ended after the Richards Bay SAPS arrested two suspects.

No such cases were opened in Richards Bay last year.
