Record entries at annual Mondi school run
The annual 5km Mondi Schools fun run saw record entries when 3 848 participants entered the popular event
THE annual 5km Mondi Schools fun run held at the Bay Hall on Sunday morning saw record entries when 3 848 participants entered the popular event.
Arboretum Primary School carried on with their dominance of the event, claiming their fourth consecutive title after entering 1 255 athletes.
They walked away with a cheque of R21 000 for their efforts.
The local government school picked up the win in 2013 with 992 entries, 2014 with 1 561 entries and 2016 with 1 269 entries.
Richards Bay Primary finished in second spot with 990 entries and received a cheque of R17 000, with third placed Bay Primary School (610 entries) bagging R15 000.
Empangeni Preparatory School made themselves heard all along the 5km route and were rewarded the Best Spirit Trophy, along with R5 000.
BirdsView Academy won the R10 000 lucky draw prize.
Local non-profit organisations SANCA, Zululand LifeLine, Amangwe Village, Empangeni Child Welfare and Empangeni Child and Family Care all received a cheque of R15 000 from Mondi.
