Richards Bay rugger squad ready to rumble

Richards Bay's big test will come on Saturday when they host Mancosa Rhinos in their first Premier League assignment

RICHARDS BAY first team rugby coach Trevor Montgomery and his men ended their pre-season friendly games unbeaten ahead of the 2017 Premier League, drilling Vryheid 41-16 at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Saturday.

The previous week they beat Ballito Dolphins 60-0.

The local outfit that won the First Division last season and gained promotion, are looking good in terms of player depth.

Richards Bay came out firing on all cylinders in the first 20 minutes, racking up a number of good phases which resulted in tries by Jimmy Enslin and Armand Fourie.

Ruan Venter was bang on target, nailing two conversions and one penalty to bring the points tally to 17.

Vryheid managed to cross the chalk and nail two penalties to leave the scoreboard reading 17-11 at half-time.

The interval team talk had the desired effect as Enslin, Venter and JP Rossouw dotted down in the second half, with Venter adding three conversions and one penalty to take his team’s total to 41.

Vryheid could only reply with a single unconverted try (41-16).

Kick-off for the second team is at 1.30pm, followed by the first team at 3pm.

In the earlier game played on Saturday, Richards Bay 2 went dow 19-24 to Vryheid 2.
