Donation ‘spurs’ partnership to fight crime

Eagle Creek Spur stepped on board to help combat crime by sponsoring the Empangeni Youth Crime Prevention Desk

EAGLE Creek Spur Empangeni took a stand against crime last week when they entered into a sponsorship partnership with the Empangeni Youth Crime Prevention Desk (EYCPD).

According to EYCPD member Linda Gumede, their aim is to create a safer environment in Zululand.

‘We are the whistle blowers against crimes in our communities. Crime prevention is the responsibility of everyone, not just the police and CPFs,’ said Gumede.

EYCPD pride themselves in tackling issues around youth development, which takes away the risk factor of youth getting involved in crime.

Spur Empangeni Senior Manager Duane van Rooyen said they felt very strongly about getting on board in partnering with SAPS and EYCPD.

‘Eagle Creek has always been here for the community, especially in combatting the social ills of society,’ he said.

Meanwhile Empangeni police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdalose, said the work being done by EYCPD and CPFs in Zululand is vital in helping the police.

‘We as SAPS cannot be everywhere at once; we require the help of the public as well, such as delivered by the EYCPD and the various CPFs.
