Thuthukani Special School’s passionate plea for road fix
Thuthukani Special School call on uMhlathuze Municipality to upgrade gravel road

THUTHUKANI Special School staff are pleading with municipal officials to come to their aid regarding the shocking state of the gravel road that leads to their premises.
The school, which caters for children with intellectual disabilities, aged 6 to 18 years, was visited by the KZN Legislature earlier this year, at which time they raised their concerns over the state of the road.
Officials from the Legislature indicated that it is the responsibility of the local municipality to attend to the upgrading of the road.
According to Thuthukani Principal Martie Combrink, she tried to set up meetings with the municipality but to no avail.

‘I have called both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s PA’s who said that they will get back to me regarding the issue, but they never did,’
‘We received some funding about five years back from local farmers which assisted us in upgrading a small portion of the road but the first half of the road is riddled with deep pot holes.
‘When it rains it is very difficult for the buses as well as our pupils to get into the school,’ she told the ZO.

The road is used on a daily basis by buses that transport hundreds of students, some wheelchair-bound, to and from school.
The road not only poses issues for Thuthukani, but also Dover Farm School, which is situated next door.
