New waiting room for Ngwelezana hospital’s senior citizens

The new waiting room will be used by the old age pensioners, most of whom start arriving at 4am to wait for their medication

SENIOR citizens awaiting their hospital medication at Ngwelezana Hospital can now do so in comfort after the recent refurbishment of the hospital’s waiting room.

‘I realised the need and importance of this project after receiving a brief from our team at Foskor, who advised that this waiting area hosts our senior citizens who are picked up from their homes as early as 4am,’ said Foskor‘s Senior Vice President: Mining, Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, James Morotoba, at the recent handover ceremony and unveiling of the plaque.

According to Morotoba, this project resonates well with the company’s four main strategic priorities, which are education, social development and welfare, environment and health.

He said despite the recent collapse in commodity prices, Foskor remains committed to its social responsibilities.

Ngwelezana Hospital is 46 years old and its staff complement of 1 200 serves more than 7 500 patients from King Cetshwayo, uMkhanyakude and Zululand districts each month.

‘By assisting the very community from which we source some of our employees, we will be touching the lives of their extended families, friends and neighbours,’ said Morotoba.

Foskor has also recently relaunched its media centre, which supports local schools by reproducing learning materials.

The company also assisted with sponsorship of the local schools’ Grade 12 improvement programme.

‘We have committed ourselves as a responsible corporate citizen of uMhlatuze, to assist local schools to improve their results,’ said Morotoba.
