Dewinnar and Mgedeza on winning flights

First place prize money was R1 500, with the runners-up taking home R1 000

ANDRE Dewinnar and his partner Masandi Mgedeza beat father and son combination JP and Vleis van der Westhuizen 3-1 in the Empangeni Rugby Club 701 doubles darts tournament final at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday.

First place prize money was R1 500, with the runners-up taking home R1 000.

Fourteen doubles teams were split into two groups and followed a round robin format, playing the best of three 701 games.

Naas Strydom and Corné Marx secured a semi-final spot after beating Chuch Pereira and Henning de Wet 2-1.

The Van der Westhuizens knocked out Mike Bekker and Herman Steyn (2-0) in their quarter-final clash.

After only losing one game during the round robin stages, Stephan Strydom and his partner Calvin Bessinger went down 2-0 to Ronald Rajkumar and Pragarsen Naidoo.

Dewinnar and Mgedeza knocked out Angus MacDonald and Pieter Loots 2-0.

In the semi-finals, the Van der Westhuizen team knocked out Naidoo and Rajkumar 2-0, with Dewinnar and Mgedeza beating Strydom and Marx by the same margin..

Strydom and Marx bounced back to claim third spot (R500) by beating Naidoo and Rajkumar 3-1 in the third place play-off.

Adam Erasmus and Dylan Smith teamed up for the competition
