Crafts sale at Jabulani Rehabilitation Centre

The sale will begin at 10am on Saturday at the centre, situated off the R34 towards Nkwalini

THE Community Works Programme (CWP) at Jabulani Rehabilitation Centre will be closing at the end of March and residents will be hosting a sale of their beautifully crafted goods.

The sale will begin at 10am on Saturday at the centre, situated off the R34 towards Nkwalini.

Handiwork such as crocheted blankets of all sizes, beaded T-shirts, bead work, traditional skin garments and dance regalia, hide waist coats, sheepskin leg adornments, trays, beaded shoes and other crafts will be on offer.

The CWP hopes to soon accommodate the residents at another workshop nearby.

The ten residents who are not yet allocated houses will be allowed to stay at Jabulani until they have been given permanent housing at Dumisani Makhaye Village.

Works of art. An assortment of handmade skin and cotton regalia will be up for grabs at the sale

The Departments of Social Development and Human Settlements are currently assisting the centre owners to try and speed up the relocation process, which has been ongoing since 2009. The centre’s buildings are extremely dilapidated.

Unfortunately the Association for the Physically-Challenged (APC) can no longer afford to maintain Jabulani, and in the long run will want to sell the 21ha property at a market-related price.

Hopefully this will enable the APC to build a suitable workshop near Dumisani Makhaye Village in the near future.
