Police are appealing to the public for information about a robbery suspect who escaped from custody at the eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court last week.
Ayanda Khoza (22) escaped from the court’s holding cells and is still on the run.
He was to appear in court on charges of common robbery and escaped when police officers chased three opportunistic teenagers who mugged a frail woman returning from a clinic visit and made off with her cell phone, cash and clinic card outside the court.
Empangeni SAPS spokesperson Captain Mbongiseni Madlalose said the police are still searching for Khoza and he requested the community to assist with any information concerning his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the teenagers appeared in court on mugging charges and were refused bail as more charges were brought against them when victims identified them during an identity parade.
