Make a splash to fight polio
The Rotary Global Swimarathon will once again try to break the Guinness World Record for the most swimmers completing 100m in the same hour as part to raise funds for their End Polio Now campaign
THE annual Rotary global Swimarathon will be held at St Catherine’s from 8am to 10am on Saturday, 25 February – at the same time attempting to better the Guinness world record for the most swimmers completing 100m in the same hour.
The aim of the swim is to raise funds for the ‘End Polio’ campaign.
The event is being hosted by St Catherine’s Earlyact Club, who have been on board since the original swim in 2012.
‘This will be the final big splash to end polio,’ said organiser Denise Brook, teacher in charge of the Earlyact Club.
‘This is a fun event for the community and an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life,
‘The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation contribute two dollars for every dollar that Rotary raises to fund this campaign.
‘Since 2012 St Catherine’s Earlyact Club has donated a total of R16 690.00 through hosting these annual events.
‘Swimmers are required to swim 100m (4 x 25m lengths.
‘This year the Rotary Club of Mtunzini will be hosting a similar event for the second time,’ said Brook
