UPDATE: Housing project shutdown continues

Contractor for the Aquadene Housing Project's bulk services installations remains locked out

IT has not been business as usual for Aquadene Housing Project’s bulk services provider, Thokgoga Projects cc, after angry community members shut down its operations on Wednesday.

The contracting company is installing sewage infrastructure in Aquadene and Brackenham, but on Thursday and Friday the Brackenham site remained locked.

According to Ward 26 committee member and Project Steering Committee Chairperson, Phillip Stainbank, no engagements have taken place with the company.

Last week angry residents protested outside the site to raise their concerns about the company’s appointment of an outside sub-contractor, not employing a workforce from Ward 26 and lack of safety regulations and barricades at construction sites.

Residents locked the site premises and demanded their concerns be addressed before operations can resume.

Stainbank believes employees are expected to return to work tomorrow (Tuesday).

Thokgoga Projects cc representative Motlatjo Letlala meanwhile declined to comment on the matter.
