PERMISSION is being sought by the Zulu Coast Film Office to shoot a movie in the ‘Greenhills Forest’ in Richards Bay.
‘Shoot’ is the operative word, as the night air will be filled with the sounds of rapid machine gun fire close to Arboretum residences.
The crew is scheduled to film on location from 12 to 18 February, pending consent.
The base camp will be in the area of the old Bundu Nursery at the intersection of the John Ross Parkway and North Central Arterial (R619 canal robots).
Recreating the terrain, including villages and roads, to look like scenery in the Congo, the movie will depict rebel attacks on a night convoy of vehicles.
Besides noise impacting on Arboretum Extension and the Rhus Lancea section of Arboretum, the entire set location extends all the way to the Greenhills area, between the highway and Lake Mzingazi.
The applicants are in discussion with city traffic officials for partial road restrictions to eliminate ambient noise, as well as the SAPS for consent to fire blanks.
Given the regular presence of crocs, hippos, Fish Eagles, mongooses and monkeys in the film area, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife will also show an interest.
