Lucky escape as bus nosedives into greenbelt

No injuries in mystery crash at Greenhills intersection

MINUTES after all passengers disembarked a bus in Meerensee, it crashed into a greenbelt at the Greenhills intersection while heading back to Empangeni.

Empangeni Transport Services recently purchased the bus from Ikhwezi Transport and were in the process of repainting it.

It was reported the driver swerved to avoid a truck, but Empangeni Transport Services Manager, John Peter said they are still investigating the cause of the incident.

‘We are checking the tracking information and going through our internal processes to establish what happened or whether the driver was at fault.

‘Hopefully we will get answers later today. Most important to us is that no one got hurt.’

The uMhlathuze Traffic Department blocked both lanes while the bus was being towed out of the dense bush, resulting in congestion towards Angler’s Rod.

EMS ambulances and the Fire and Rescue Services were also called out to the scene.

No case was opened as no injuries were sustained.
