Inmates rock around the sock

An inmate of Qalakabusha Prison was handed a further three years on top of his existing term for assaulting a fellow inmate with a rock

SIBONISO Sokhulu (36), an inmate of Qalakabusha Prison, was handed a further three years on top of his existing term for assaulting a fellow inmate with a rock he had placed in a sock.

While he admitted his guilt, he did not provide the court with any reason for smashing another on the side of the head on 24 July 2016.

Sokhulu is no stranger to the criminal court system, having earned his first conviction in 1999.

A string of arrests and convictions thereafter, such as assault and theft, have seen him behind bars for most of his life.

In 2008, he was handed a 15- year sentence for assault in eShowe Magistrate’s Court as a result of suspended sentences from previous court appearances.
