Principal outlines goals

Meet Grantleigh's new Principal: Andrew Norris

ANDREW Norris is a man with a reputable track record in education, and notably so.

He was recently appointed as the principal of one of Zululand’s most prestigious schools, Grantleigh.

The 49-year-old husband and father of two firmly believes in leadership through serving.

His appointment marks a new era for Grantleigh, who coincidentally celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.

Having been head of and taught at a number of esteemed schools, Norris’ vision for Grantleigh is simple: maintain the academic excellence of the school, while continuing to grow sport and culture, something he hopes to achieve through his style of leadership.

‘Leading through serving is important, but creating a school environment primed for the inclusion of all children is a major priority – a sort of family orientated environment in which the learners feel happy and safe.

‘I feel that if that is achieved, quality learning will follow,’ says Norris.

Born and raised in Durban, he attended St Henry’s Marist Brothers’ College before pursuing a career in teaching, a profession that seemingly runs in the family as all three of his siblings are teachers.

He was Deputy Principal and Sport Coordinator at Morula Primary School in Botswana before being appointed Principal at Enjabulweni Independent School in Swaziland.

He was also Principal of Wembley College in Greytown, as well as Blouberg International School in Cape Town.

He says his appointment at Grantleigh has been a privilege.

‘The staff and students have been phenomenal, they have welcomed me with open arms into the Grantleigh family.’

While accustomed to KZN’s climate, Norris concedes that Zululand’s humidity will take some getting used to.

‘After three years in Cape Town it’s definitely going to take some adjusting to,’ he laughed.

An avid sport fanatic and outdoors man, Norris hopes Zululanders will get behind and support him – and considering his passion for the Sharks, the people of Zululand sureely take a liking to him.
