The star pupils, who maintained excellent academic results throughout their schooling career, were ecstatic to learn that their hard work and dedication paid off

THOLOKUHLE Secondary School high flyers – Nomusa Mncwango and Siphiwokuhle Sibiya – showed that girl power rules when they scored eight and seven distinctions respectively.

The star pupils, who maintained excellent academic results throughout their schooling career, were ecstatic to learn that their hard work and dedication paid off.

Nomusa plans to study medicine and surgery at the University of Cape Town, while Siphiwokuhle will study towards becoming a chartered accountant.

According to school Principal V Hlatshwayo, the two top achievers have always been disciplined with a good work ethic.

‘Nomusa was our deputy headgirl, so coupled with her studies she also handled leadership duties as head of the

Academic Council of Learners, as well as performing in the school choir, attending choir competitions and winning second place in the national choir competition.

Hlatshwayo said the school staff worked tirelessly throughout the year, teaching sometimes seven days a week.

‘Staff went the extra mile, especially for the more challenging subjects and pupils also played their part by attending daily evening classes, as well as on weekends.

‘Our pupils achieved a 91.8% pass rate, 95 Bachelors 75 diploma qualifications and a total of 76 distinctions,’ he said.
