THE dedication of LifeLine Zululand volunteers was acknowledged at the organisation’s year-end volunteers appreciation function in Richards Bay last week.

Director Michelle Jewlal thanked long-serving volunteers as well as members who had recently completed the organisation’s Personal Growth and Basic Counselling Services courses.

Jewal said volunteers played a vital role in sustaining the organisation’s operations and services.

‘LifeLine Zululand is affiliated to LifeLine SA and is the only recognised volunteer programme nationally and internationally.

‘Volunteers undergo stringent and rigorous interviews and selection processes at various stages of their applications and training.

‘The process of volunteers maintaining their affiliation to LifeLine Zululand is monitored by professionals in their fields and provides a platform for continuous training and development to assist, support and guide volunteers to maintain professional and high quality service.’

LifeLine volunteers have empowered many individuals and communities with knowledge, emotional support, confidential counselling and have enabled them to deal more effectively with life’s challenges and traumas.

‘LifeLine offers the Personal Growth and Basic Counselling courses, which are the core requirement for preparing volunteers to become LifeLine counsellors.

‘The course is an exciting and challenging process, the learning takes place in small groups, each with two experienced LifeLine facilitators.

‘LifeLine works on the principles of respect, non-judgment and personal responsibility and is based on the person-centred approach of Carl Rogers.

‘Trainees are encouraged to experiment with their own reactions and responses to others, as well as to learn better and more effective ways of communicating.

‘On completion of both modules of the course, trainees can enlist for selection as LifeLine counsellors,’ said Jewlal.
Those interested in participating in this year’s courses can contact the office on 035 7892472 for bookings.
