‘Slaying Van Damme’ sets new trend

‘VAN Damme was slayed’ again and buried and when he tried to wake up from the dead.

I’m sure that’s what South Africans felt like after having a full blast of fun over the New Year’s weekend.

Before we get into this ‘Van Damme’ trend, perhaps I should explain its true meaning.

To some, which is just a small number, they might think we are making fun of someone actually being killed.

The term ‘Sobulala u-Van Damme namhlanje – We’re going to kill Van Damme’ simply means ‘we are going to have some fun’.

It is a trendy new phrase used to spread fun and love.

So, on New Year’s eve, we all waited with anticipation to witness history in the local music industry.

For the first time, we sailed into the new year with a maskandi signature tune Sobulala u-Van Damme, which was different from the house and kwaito music we normally listen to.

Yes, South African have embraced this killer phrase and it has been trending for months now.

Not only did it win the Song of the Year title, but Mroza Fakude created something magical which will always be remembered in years to come.

He made history, and boy oh boy, did we have some fun because of it.

Congratulations nsizwa yaseMkhuze for giving us a ‘Van Damme slaying’ year.
