One killed on Tronox site

Tronox regrets to report a fatality following an accident.

A TRONOX employee lost his life and another was injured at the company’s Mineral Separation Plant yesterday (Thursday) morning.

According to a source, the employee who was injured was inspecting the site when the floor gave way and he fell some three stories.

The other employee was on the ground floor when the floor fell on top on him.
Shortly after the incident Tronox provided the ZO with a statement.

‘Tronox regrets to report a fatality following an accident that occurred at approximately 11am this morning, at its Mineral Separation Plant in Empangeni.

‘A second employee was injured and has been transported to the Netcare The Bay Hospital.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our deceased colleague and for our injured co-worker.’

Tronox further stated that the cause of the accident is under investigation.

‘Immediate measures have been taken to secure the area and to ensure the safety of our employees.

‘Tronox is committed to the safety of our workers and the local community.

‘The relevant local and company authorities have been alerted and are on site.

‘We take this situation seriously and are fully investigating the incident and will take all necessary action to prevent future such events.’

The company noted that more information regarding the accident will be issued when available.
