Amy blitzes to uMhlanga Trail Run victory
Burger, with a time of 1:33.58 finished with 30 seconds to spare ahead of second place Lisa Collett
MTUNZINI lass Amy Burger celebrated on Sunday after finishing first in the women’s division of the 18km uMhlanga Beach Run, despite taking a tumble on the beach.
‘It was epic,’ said an elated Burger at the prize giving.
‘The last section on the beach was not a glamorous ending, I wiped out, getting knocked over by the surf,’ she said.
‘But I love trail running, and the challenges that go with running off road. I did Comrades this year and it took forever for my body to recover. Running on the trails is far easier on the body.’
Burger, with a time of 1:33.58 finished with 30 seconds to spare ahead of second place Lisa Collett who ran a 1:34.26.
The route took runners through sugarcane, beaches and forest tracks between uMhlanga and uMdloti.
