WITH half the NFD season gone and Thanda Royal Zulu taking a massive 10 point lead into the break, club chairman Pierre Delvaux says excellent management has been the story behind their success.
‘The past six years of battling and failing to obtain promotion to the Premier League, made us think about what we needed to do to achieve the results that eluded us.
‘The first was to retain our best players, who formed the core of the team.
‘Having just missed relegation by winning the last game of the season, we needed to boost the squad by signing the right calibre of new players who exhibited the right attitude and were hungry to go for promotion.
‘I must congratulate the management team headed up by CEO, Jomo Biyela and team manager, Jeffry Fakude, and the technical team and specialist advisors for this, as our signings were sound and the bold risks we took have so far paid off for the club,’ Delvaux told the Zululand Observer.
‘A lot of thought was also given to the make-up and structure of the technical team.
‘Although head coach Roger Sikhakane had been unable to previously achieve results for the club, it was decided continuity would be wise and that he had what it took to get the club promoted.
‘The addition of assistant head coach Jomo Ntuli and the structure that was put together, has seen Roger perform excellently, silencing any critics.
‘The stats show that this is the best performance yet to be achieved in the NFD League, most likely ever.’
Sponsors thanked
Delvaux also thanked supporters for believing in the team and appealed to them to come out in their numbers at home games.
‘If we can win our remaining eight home games, this will take Thanda to the PSL.
‘I would also like to thank our sponsors, King Cetshwayo District and especially the City of uMhlathuze, who have now completed the installation of floodlights.
‘This will make a huge positive difference as the team will be able to play night games and it is one of the requirements for the PSL.
‘Without their sponsorship and timeous payments, promotion will slip away as the club needs to ensure that fixtures can be honoured and all costs relating to our youth development programme and our monthly overheads for the team to travel and perform each week, can be funded.’
